Blue Water Ventures offers naturalist-led field trips for students and educational adventures for adults. For schools, each field trip is customized to meet the instructional objectives of the teachers we work with. For adult programs, we design vacations that are adventurous and relaxing with an educational component.
Our eco-adventure travel destinations include: Coastal California, The Sierras, Florida, Baja, Belize, The Caribbean and Micronesia. Activities include sea kayaking, sailing, hiking, whale watching, tidepooling, backpacking, kayak camping and classroom visits. Each year we offer opportunites to snorkel with Florida manatees, Baja whale sharks, California sea otters and reef fish.
Kim Powell, Owner, Operator & Head Naturalist, Blue Water Ventures
Kim has been organizing single and multiple day excursions to places with extraordinary beauty since 1985. With a Masters Degree in Environmental Interpretation, she is dedicated to educating people using the natural world as a classroom.
Kim has led expeditions from the blue glaciers of Alaska to the tropical greenery of the Amazon Basin. As a naturalist, her area of expertise is the ecology of coral reefs. Of equal interest to her is sharing the cultural diversity of the countries visited. Kim is a certified sea kayaking instructor through the American Canoe Association. Each excursion is led by competent and talented naturalist educators who share a passion for the outdoors.
School Field Trips
Blue Water Ventures is committed to providing enriching experiences using nature as our classroom. Each year Blue Water Ventures designs outdoor curriculum for elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and universities. Over the years we have conducted teacher workshops and welcome the opportunity to host more.
Trips for Women
Blue Water Ventures is well known in the San Francisco Bay area and beyond for our active calendar of local and international events designed for women. Be sure to check out the Trips for Women link for our next adventure.
Quietly observing wildlife from the perspective of a sea kayak is an unforgettable experience. The protected wetlands of Elkhorn Slough is our most popular destination for all ages. In addition to our naturalist-led sea kayaking tours we offer instructional classes in kayak skills and safety.
Groups (friends, families, clubs, scouts, museums, non-profit, small businesses and corporations) can organize a private trip to any of the destinations we go. Book a group tour and your trip is discounted or complimentary.
