BAJA WHALE CAMP AND SEA OF CORTEZ KAYAK/SNORKEL

A Desert to Sea Adventure Extraordinaire

January 28th-February 6th, 2012

Welcome to Our Adventure in Baja!
I am pleased
to welcome you to a fantastic adventure exploring the wonders and wildlife of the Baja Peninsula Sur, from Desert to Sea!

In the early dawn of Blue Water Ventures, I led several trips through the rugged peninsula of Baja. One of the most profound experiences of my life occurred while eye to eye with a California Gray Whale in a remote breeding lagoon of Baja. I am very excited to share such experiences with you as we explore Baja's rich and varied wildlife together.

The 10 day itinerary will  provide a detailed account of our travels starting and ending in La Paz. We plan to spend three nights/four days base camping at Espiritu Santos Island in the Sea of Cortez.  Three nights/four days will be spent  at our whale base camp in Magdalena Bay on Baja's Pacific Coast. Hotel accommodations are included on Day One, Day Five and Day Nine. All meals are provided throughout the itinerary.

For centuries, California Gray Whales  have traveled 10,000 miles round trip between their summer feeding grounds in Alaska and their winter breeding/calving grounds in the Pacific lagoons of Baja. Traveling in small skiffs into Magdalena Bay, we will wait for the whales to approach us. Close encounters are a common occurrence and quite thrilling. Naturalist-led beach hikes and kayaking excursions through the mangroves of Magdalena Bay will also be offered. In the ruggedly beautiful Espiritu Santos Island in the Sea of Cortez we will kayak, snorkel, fish, hike and relax from our dramatically scenic beach camp. At both sites, we have the comfort and ease of boat supported base camps. All activities are optional. We typically cover 4-6 miles when kayaking in the Sea of Cortez.

Our group is limited to 16 women so please reserve your spot by sending a $100 non refundable deposit to: Blue Water Ventures, 108 Mason Street, Santa Cruz, CA. 95060.  You may also pay via a credit card on Pay Pal (please note that there is a 3% service charge on multiple day trips so your online deposit is $103). For instructions, please visit our Payment Center.   Payment schedules and travel insurance may be reviewed at Deposits .

Before sending a deposit, please email your interest and check trip status.

FLIGHTS TO LA PAZ, BAJA: The airlines that fly into La Paz (LAP) are Alaska (800-252-7522) and  AeroMexico (800-237-6639). I have found great rates at  Kayak.Com.

It may be possible to find better airfares into San Jose Cabo (SJD airport code) although we have chosen these dates to correspond with the most current airline schedule of Alaska Airlines into La Paz(subject to change). Our group will gather for dinner at 7:30pm on January 28th with a more formal orientation in the morning (double occupancy rooms and dinner included). After clearing customs at the La Paz Airport, you will  take a van to our hotel (we will  send you a voucher to cover this fee ) and check in anytime after 3:00pm.

FLIGHT OPTIONS TO LA PAZ VIA SAN JOSE CABO: If traveling through San Jose Cabo, there is now direct bus service departing from the Cabo airport to La Paz daily at 12:30pm, 2:30pm and 5:00pm.  On your return, you may travel from La Paz to the Cabo airport with direct daily departures at 7:00am and 9:00pm. This first-class bus is comfortable and reasonably priced (approximately $30 per person, one way) and is about a 3 hour drive.

DEPARTURE: On Day 9 we will be back at our hotel in La Paz and you may depart any time on February 6th (Day 10). Please take into consideration travel time if departing from San Jose Cabo.

A complete package of information, most of which can be found on the web site, will be sent to you before our trip departure.

Please give me a call or send me an email if I can be of any other assistance

May the Whales and Wild-Life be with us!
